LOGLINE
Slowly sliding into a volcanic crater, a young woman begins to fight the beliefs that hold her down. Lifting her head, she sees a figure in white at the rim — and climbs toward it, not knowing who, or what, awaits her.

SYNOPSIS
On the slope of a volcanic crater, a young woman is slowly slipping toward the bottom, losing the strength and the will to go on.

But something in her refuses. Her first attempt to rise fails. So does the next. She keeps fighting the beliefs that hold her back — and then a figure in white appears at the rim, as if it has been waiting for her all along.

Step by step, she reaches the top. There, the figure in white guides her to the water, where their movements begin to mirror each other.

A wordless dance film about the light we cannot see until we begin to rise.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
There was a time when I barely left my home for weeks. I lost interest in the world around me, and every day repeated the one before.

When I began working on INWARD, I wanted to tell a story about the strength that keeps us going when there seems to be no way out. But during the shoot, I realised the story was far more personal than I had thought: the protagonist’s exhaustion and her attempts to rise were my own.

The volcano in the film is not just a location. It is a state in which a person slowly slips downward and no longer resists. Yet even there, something remains that refuses to give up. I remember climbing out myself — not all at once, and not without failure, but step by step.

I chose to entrust this story not to words, but to the body: dance has always helped me release emotional weight and feel joy again. In the film, the body moves from heaviness and tension to lightness and freedom, and the water in the final scene becomes a symbol of cleansing and a new beginning.

If the audience carries just one thing away, I hope it is this: change begins within us. Sometimes all it takes is the first movement upward.
